The
great day came, my hi-fi dealer arranged a large comparison test with
the "Audion 300 B" mono tube amps. The test chain consisted of the
following devices:

The sources were a HHB Burnit plus CD
+ CLEARAUDIO Champion level II, the preamp a Burmester 808 MK III and
for the "purest electricflow" the Powerconditioner from Burmester.

At the end the two devices to
compare were connected: The large well-known"Audion300B" against the
"300B PSE" of Worldaudiodesign, completely unknown on the German market,
available as a kit in England.
The Chinch wiring took place
with Burmester "lila" and the loudspeaker with Van den
Hul MC 0 352. My Tannoy Edinburgh with Supertweeter were connected as
loudspeakers.
Firstly, we began with the tube
amps of Worldaudiodesign. After a short time, the question arose if the
output stages had already warmed up. It was not the case as it ran only
for 5 minutes. We were shocked about the good sound of the system which
was in a more or less cold condition. After some time the fantastic
spatiality, brilliant vitality and enormous speed was noticeable which
you rarely have heard before. This kind of sound spectrum we expected
and knew only from devices which are very expensive. After a long time
we changed to the Audion amps. Well, the first impression was not
intoxicating. We missed something, which I would expect from such an
expensive amp (prices can be found in the Internet!). Now the question
arose if this came from the impedance of the loudspeakers as the
Supertweeter impedance went down to 6.5 ohms. Therefore we connected the
system on the 4 ohms output. The tube amp of the Worldaudiodesign has
only one output connection of 8 ohms as we realized without problems.
When desired also a 4 ohms version can be ordered. The connection on 4
ohms at the Audion brought more vitality and speed but we still missed
something. As a last attempt we connected the CD player directly to the
Audion but this was not a great joy. The Audion is delivered with "Gold
Dragon" and the Worldaudidesign amps with 300Bs of JJ electronics. I
certainly will do comparison tests with other 300Bs.
The
result of the hi-fi evening is as follows: The sound of the
Worldaudiodesign tube amp is very good, especially the spatiality and
vitality, particularly in the vocal area and with acoustic guitars. I
have never heard a similar output system for this price and as a kit.
This is really a quiet tip. Congratulations to Worldaudiodesign!
It cost me quite an effort to order the kits in
England. You never know what you will get when you haven't heard and
seen this before. An alternative would have been to order a kit from
Japan which is twice as expensive and, in addition, the first optical
impression was less pleasing.
