A Behringer Studio
Monitor was the 1st loudspeaker which awaked the KEL 84 to
life.
With
this low cost model the small amplifier could perfectly show its vocal
presence and the reproduction of small details. When the amplifiers
showed that it ran without problems also on high levels it was attached
to my Tannoy Edinburgh. This was a revelation, particularly for the
price segment in which this amplifier is situated. This is a real
alternative to lots of transistor amplifiers!
The
“Live End Hifi Studio” in Muelheim gave me the possibility to an
ultimative, perhaps not completely fair test with a Tannoy Kingdom. This
loudspeaker shows all errors the equipment can make. I have heard many
expensive High End systems which were all about appearances! The Tannoy
Kingdom is a four way system with Supertweeter and an efficiency of
91dB. These loudspeakers are very rarely on the European market. So far
I know this is the last couple which can be bought as demo system in
Germany.
First of all
we attached another model which is from the company JMlab. This is a
small, however, fine loudspeaker for racks which was available from a
customer order at that time. Source for all tests was the CD Player of
the British company HHB.
Together with the JMlab loudspeaker the full amplifier presented a full
sound plentiful of bass and little details were still audible. After one
hour, during which we heard lots of different music styles we changed to
the Tannoy Kingdom. The high efficiency showed that the full amplifier
is absolutely quiet in an open-circuit operation. That is not naturally
for a tube! Then the first songs of Sophie Zelemani and the acoustic
guitar of Badi Assad were impressing! The full amplifier drew a
spatialness and a detail wealth which is absolutely incredible! This
proves that one can get lots of Hifi for a low budget. Amazing!
Here
the company World audio Design developed a brilliant equipment! We hope
that further will follow, perhaps an output stage kit with the 845!?
